Dance Masterclasses - Where To Find Out About Them

Many of the top dancers and choreographers in the dance industry frequently teach masterclasses and workshops where they share their dance moves, knowledge and dance routines. This can be a great opportunity for dancers but where do you find out about the latest dance masterclasses?

Well one good way is audition and notice boards in dance studios. They frequently advertise here and most lkely they'll be advertised at the dance studio that the masterclass will be taking place at. But what if you don't live near a dance studio?

Another good and easy way is dance websites, and not just Dance Gel! Websites such as www.danceweb.co.uk or www.londondance.com are also good sources for news of the latest dance workshops and masterclasses.

You can also subscribe to the mailing lists of dance troupes or choreographers if you are a fan of their work and they'll surely let you know when they are holding a workshop in a town near you. This is one of the most reliable ways of hearing about the latest masterclasses.

Masterclasses are most often at an intermediate/ advanced level though there are masterclasses which will also go over the basics and be suitable for beginner level. Many masterclasses will actually be easier than the level they say, mainly because there's only so much that can be covered in 1 dance session. This isn't to say they're not good, it doesn't have to be hard to look good!

Another overlooked place is dance agencies. Yes the type of agencies that represent dancers and help them find work. Why? Because they also have choreographers on their books who they work with and many agencies have some of the top choreographers in the industry. So get on their newsletter or mailing list as well.

A good thing with masterclasses is that if there is more than 1 class happening they'll often give you a discount if you do several classes which can be a great deal considering the calibre of the teachers. Some masterclasses you have to register in advance, others you can just turn up on the day. There can be discounts for paying in advance as well so it's always worth checking.

Masterclasses tend to be popular and can be busy so it's worth getting there early if you can to make sure you're not stuck right at the back of the class where it can be hard to see what the teacher's doing.

Find the masterclass you're after, book your place, turn up for the class and then go away inspired!
