How Important Is A Mirrored Dance Studio?

There is a good provision of dance classes in most major towns and cities. However quality dance studios are not always readily available. How important is a good dance studio to practise in?

Ideally a good dance studio will have sprung-dance floors which minimises potential for injuries. Also it will ideally be a mirrored dance studio with a good music system where music can be played loud enough.

There are many dance schools which operate from buildings and rooms without a mirrored wall. This is a great shame because being able to watch yourself and make improvements in real-time is an important aspect of learning to dance.

Of course it costs money to build a mirrored dance studio and you're most likely to find them in specialist dance studios, dance schools or gyms.

They are also more expensive to hire out than a standard rehearsal room without mirrors which means some people are not willing to pay the extra price. It is more than possible to learn without mirrors, in some case it may even be a hindrance but I think having mirrors at some point in your practise is a great help in improving your dancing ability.

In terms of music system it should be loud enough for the size of room, it's not always great to practise where music is really quiet, it can dull the experience a bit. Also in this day and age a music system that can be connected to an ipod or mp3 player may also be essential if you carry all your music on it. This can usually be achieved by connecting a wire from the system to your mp3 player.

So if price is the same, in most instances it's better to use a dance studio with mirrors. And if you're searching for a dance class or dance studio, find out if their classes take place in a mirrored dance studio. It may cost more but it's worth it because it speeds up the learning to dance process.
